Wheatstone BLADE-4

Blade-4 puts more into the physical WNIP I/O unit – more sources, more signals, more audio tools such as codecs like Opus and AAC, so that audio can be streamed from the Blade-4 to Blade-4 across the public Internet are now native to the WheatNet-IP environment.

It’s the first AoIP access unit to integrate audio codecs, audio tools, software apps and interoperability protocols that include audio transport, discovery, connection management, and control in one I/O unit.

Unique to this fourth generation Blade is a CPU with enough power to run specialized apps right from the I/O unit itself, without the need of a stand alone computer. Addressing today’s multi-use facility and remote-from-home broadcasts, the Blade-4 also features automatic smart association between audio sources and control settings so as talent move from studio to studio, his or her personal presets follow, giving them the right mix-minus, the right mic settings and the right EQ dynamics wherever they are.

Blade-4 also has greater interoperability chops with built-in NMOS for device discovery and AES67 support and packet timing adaptability to inter-operate with a wide range of environments and gear, from pro equipment to other AoIP networks.

Blade-4 is available with dual Ethernet ports and power supplies for added redundancy.

These new functions are in addition to existing Blade features, such as two 8x2 stereo utility mixers for online mixing of sounds or segueing remotely between feeds; routable stereo processor with parametric equalizer, compressor and limiter; and 12 universal logic ports plus 128 software LIO ports, programmable as inputs or outputs, and routable through the network.

Completely compatible with existing Blade-3 network systems, the 1RU Blade-4 includes:

  • Two separate audio clip players, enhanced to play compressed or uncompressed audio files from the built in USB ports to virtually eliminate memory storage issues
  • AES67 compliance, from .125 ms to 5 ms packets, for a very wide range of interoperability with other AES67 devices and networks
  • Support for SMPTE ST 2110, including the NMOS discovery standard for AES67 and next generation television networks.
  • Dual Ethernet ports & power supplies for redundancy
  • 11 inch full color LCD front panel display allows for greatly enhanced front panel control capability
  • Built-in OS for running customized scripts and specialized software, metering apps. and virtual interfaces.
